A STELLAR Career
Jerry began his career with BellSouth Telecommunications in Jackson, Mississippi where he served in several management positions in engineering and operations. He also held the title of Manager - External Affairs in Greenwood, Mississippi, where he served as a volunteer with the Chamber of Commerce and Economic Development Foundation. In that role, Jerry chaired numerous committees and served as Vice President on the Chamber Executive Committee. His recognitions included being named recipient of the statewide Distinguished Service Award by the Public Education Forum of Mississippi in 1993. As Executive Director of the Grenada County Chamber of Commerce, Jerry led the community in the implementation of a comprehensive development plan that included a $2 million capital campaign while a client of Terry Cusack, STELLAR CEO. This plan resulted in the construction of a new industrial training center, a new public golf course, a new business incubator, and the community was able to significantly expand its marketing efforts.
In 2000, Jerry accepted the Executive Director’s position of the Madison County Economic Development Authority. His major accomplishment there was the recruitment of the Nissan Automotive Assembly Plant. Under Jerry’s leadership, almost 8,000 new jobs were created and the county realized new investments of over $1.7 billion.
Elected by his peers to serve as President of the Mississippi Economic Development Council in 2000, Jerry has also served on the Governor’s Special Task Force for Economic Development and on the Mississippi Development Authority’s Advisory Board. Jerry is a graduate of the Economic Development Institute and earned his Certified Economic Developer (CEcD) designation in 1998.
A STELLAR Foundation
Jerry has a B.S. degree in Education and Mathematics from Delta State University and he is currently a candidate to complete the Executive Masters Program in Economic Development at the University of Southern Mississippi in 2005. He and his wife live in the Jackson Mississippi Metro Area and have three sons.
